What Is an Intensive Outpatient Program?

Our intensive outpatient programs (IOPs) offer a level of mental health care that is more structured and supportive than traditional outpatient therapy, but without requiring a hospital stay. IOP serves as a bridge for adults and children who are struggling with emotional or behavioral health issues that significantly impact their daily functioning but who also want to remain in their everyday environment, whether that includes school, work, or home. Our goal with intensive outpatient treatment at Seteib Resources – SR is to help clients create stability, build coping skills, and gain the tools they need to feel more in control of their thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. Whether you’re seeking help for yourself or your child, we invite you to learn more about our intensive outpatient programs by scheduling an appointment at our Baltimore, MD facility.

How Does an Intensive Outpatient Program Work?

We’ll begin by meeting with you or your child to talk through current struggles, past experiences, and treatment goals. If IOP is a good fit, we’ll develop a customized plan to guide the first stage of treatment. Each intensive outpatient program is unique, but they often involve group therapy, one-on-one counseling, family therapy, and skill-building activities to teach how to cope with anxiety, frustration, and other challenges that come up in day-to-day life. Group activities are split by age range (7 – 12 year olds, 13 – 17 year olds, and adults), allowing you or your child to interact with and receive support from peers. These outpatient mental health services are offered several days a week at our Baltimore, MD practice, usually during after-school hours to avoid disrupting your or your child’s schedule.
